Women’s Hockey (2-2)
The women’s hockey team got back on track with 5-3 and 4-1 wins over Robert Morris to open conference play. Robert Morris scored two goals in the first minute of Game 1 before the Lions found their legs. Five different Nittany Lions scored the five goals, including freshman Sofia Ismael scoring her first career goal.
Ismael scored a hat trick in Game 2 to lead Penn State to a 4-1 win. The Nittany Lions’ defense was excellent, holding Robert Morris to just four shots on goal. Penn State has won 10
straight game against Robert Morris and has an early lead in the AHA standings.
Penn State will head to Syracuse for a road series on Friday (6pm) and Saturday (3pm) to continue AHA play.
Women’s Volleyball (10-4)
The women’s volleyball team was swept by Nebraska for the third straight time last Thursday. The first set was close, but the Huskers were able to pull away with .419 hitting percentage for the match. It was a rough outing for the Penn State defense, but Kennedy Martin’s 17 kills was a bright spot for the offense.
Penn State rebounded with a 3-1 win over Iowa on Saturday. Penn State held the Hawkeyes to just .162 hitting percentage while getting an outstanding 24 kills from Kennedy Martin. Whitney Lauenstein (13) and Haley Burgdorf (11) also reached double digit kills in a strong showing from the depth hitters. Gabrielle Nichols added six blocks for the defense.
Penn State will host Northwestern on Friday (7:30pm on Big Ten Plus) and Washington on Sunday (noon on BTN).
Women’s Soccer (5-2-4)
Women’s soccer tied Purdue 2-2 on Saturday, the team’s fourth tie of the season. Paige Kalal scored early in the game to give Penn State the lead, but Purdue tied it up midway through the half. Jaiden Anderson scored in the 62nd minute to give the Boilermakers a lead, but Aubrey Kulpa answered minutes later to tie the game for the second time.
Penn State travels to the Pacific Northwest for games against Oregon tonight (9pm on Big Ten Plus) and Washington on Sunday (4pm on Big Ten Plus).
Field Hockey (6-4)
Field hockey beat Rutgers 1-0 to even their Big Ten record at 1-1. In a tight defensive game, Katelyn Strawser’s goal in the first quarter was enough to push the Nittany Lions to a win over Rutgers. On Sunday, Penn State defeated Lafayette 3-2 in overtime. Olivia Marthins scored both goals in regulation for the Nittany Lions, and Cam Standish scored the game-winner to secure the team’s first win over a ranked team this season.
Penn State hits the road to play Michigan State tomorrow (3pm on Big Ten Plus) and Kent State on Sunday (noon).
Men’s Soccer (2-7)
Penn State dropped to 0-5 in Big Ten play with a 2-1 loss to Ohio State. Etienne Reck scored in the first half to give the Lions the lead, but two goals in the dying minutes of regulation by Martin Wurschmidt lifted the Buckeyes to a road win over the Nittany Lions. It was a tough loss for a team that played well enough on defense for most of the night but could not seal the deal. It has now been over one calendar year since Penn State’s last conference win on October 3, 2025 against Michigan State.
Penn State will travel to Michigan for a game tomorrow (7pm on Big Ten Plus).
