With Tuesday’s fixtures just around the corner, I’m taking a closer look at my squad to see how it’s shaping up.
In this Rate My Team piece, I’ll highlight my key players, review their recent form, and
point out where some changes might be needed before the deadline.
Two standout performers – Bruno Guimarães with 10 points and Brighton’s Georginio with 8 – led the charge for the squad, while Van Hecke added 6 points to help boost the total.
Gabriel, who I had as vice-captain, chipped in with 9 points in their 3-2 win against Bournemouth, making a big impact and helping steady the team after a tricky previous gameweek.
FPL GW21 Preview
Heading into Gameweek 21, I’ll be making use of Dubravka in goal.
The Burnley keeper has shown good shot‑stopping ability and experience, and with him now facing Manchester United, I’m hoping he can produce a handful of saves to add value despite the tough fixture.
From there, I’m looking to Everton’s defence for some stability.
James Tarkowski (£5.6m) is my main pick as Everton host Wolves. Backing their defence didn’t go as planned last time, with four goals conceded to Brentford, but Tarkowski still managed to pick up some reliable points.
Wolves may have impressed with a 3-0 win over West Ham, but their away form tells a different story—they’ve yet to win on the road and have scored just four goals away all season.
That makes Tarkowski and Everton’s backline a solid option this week.
Alongside him, I’ve got Brighton’s Van Hecke, who delivered 6 points and a clean sheet against Burnley in their last match. He faces Manchester City next in their second leg, after Brighton’s 3-0 win in the first leg.
While I’m not fully trusting him to deliver big points again, I’m hoping he can at least chip in and keep the defence ticking.
Gabriel (£6.6m) is also in my squad, adding another layer of attacking and defensive potential. Now fully fit, the Brazilian is an easy every-week pick, scoring goals while collecting defensive contribution points and offering clean sheet potential.
With Liverpool potentially missing Hugo Ekitike, Alexander Isak, and Mohamed Salah, Gabriel could be a key player for the backline this week, providing both security and the chance for extra points.
Finally, Matty Cash completes my defensive lineup. The Aston Villa full-back impressed in their last match against Nottingham Forest, providing an assist and helping his side secure points.
Villa have been in good form for some weeks now, and with a home clash against Crystal Palace next, Cash has the attacking potential to add extra returns on top of defensive points, making him a reliable choice for the backline this week.
In midfield, Cherki has been in my team for a while now and is one of Manchester City’s key playmakers.
He was blank in their last match against Chelsea, but with Brighton up next, I’m hoping he can get involved and create some attacking returns for the squad.
Alongside him, Rogers has been in great form for Villa.
He provided an assist in his last match against Nottingham Forest and, with consistent minutes and involvement in chances, he has the potential to deliver points even against a strong Crystal Palace side in Gameweek 21.
Bruno Guimaraes is another standout in my midfield. Coming off two double-digit hauls in a row, he’s shown that underlying stats don’t always tell the full story.
Against Crystal Palace on Sunday, he scored from one shot to claim 10 points, following a last-minute goal the week before that came from a keeper error.
With a nice home fixture against Leeds coming up, he’s one I’m picking with confidence for Gameweek 21.
I also have Wilson from Fulham in my midfield. He’s been in great form recently, directly involved in goals and creating chances, and he was able to find the net in their draw against Liverpool on Sunday evening.
He faces Chelsea next, and I’m hoping he can continue his attacking returns for Gameweek 21.
In my forward line, I’ll be going with two strikers, and one of them is Bowen.
He’s been crucial for West Ham this season, consistently leading their attack and contributing with both goals and assists.
Even when the team hasn’t been at its best, Bowen tends to be involved in the key chances, making him a reliable pick for Gameweek 21.
On top of that, Nottingham Forest haven’t been too solid this season, which gives Bowen a nice opportunity to add to his returns.
My other striker and captain for this week, is Erling Haaland. He’s almost always in my team, given his premium status, though six blanks in nine games show his recent form hasn’t been perfect.
This week, he faces a Brighton side that hasn’t been watertight away from home, conceding 18 goals in 10 games, and he still managed five shots in the draw with Chelsea.
With his quality, he’s the natural choice to captain, but we’ll be watching closely in case he blanks again.
What do you think of my squad for Gameweek 21, and which players do you think will deliver the points this week? We’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments!
