Bayern Munich finished in second place behind Arsenal in the league phase of the UEFA Champions League. The pair were subsequently seeded together and split into two different sides of the Champions League bracket. Bayern essentially find themselves in the “side of death” while Arsenal lucked out with the easier route to the final.
This is what Bayern’s path to the Champions League final looks like:
Bayern Munich face a treacherous path to Budapest.
Die Rekordmeister first have to dispose of Atalanta in the Round of 16, then awaiting them in the quarterfinals will be a reunion with Pep Guardiola and his Manchester City side, or 15-time Champions League winners, Real Madrid. To book their ticket to the final in Budapest, Bayern will have to conquer one of defending champions, Paris Saint Germain, Chelsea, Galatasaray, or Liverpool in the semifinal.
Vincent Kompany’s Bayern Munich has had a stellar season up to this point, but this is where the real test begins. Can Bayern prove their mettle when it really matters? Are they capable of dispatching Europe’s heavyweights? Can Vincent Kompany go toe-to-toe with the world’s best managers? These are the question Bayern and Kompany will be looking to answer in what will surely be an electric end to the season.
Bayern Munich look to take their first step to reaching the Champions League quarterfinal when they go head-to-head with Atalanta on March 10th or 11th.
