The road to WrestleMania 42 officially kicks off at Royal Rumble on Jan. 31 in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. That means WWE is quickly approaching its most important time of the year, where the returns
of part-timers and legends have become a fixture.
With that in mind, Fightful Select and WrestleVotes are reporting that WWE has had internal discussions about “Stone Cold” Steve Austin making an appearance on their programming soon. His name has been “circulating across multiple departments,” but it’s not clear yet if the idea is to bring him in for more than one shot, or what his role might be if he does return to WWE.
The 61-year-old Austin is one of the biggest stars in WWE history, where he became an all-time great draw during his time as the face of the company during the Attitude Era in the late 1990’s. He last match happened in 2022 when he came out of retirement to beat Kevin Owens in the main event of WrestleMania 38 night one. It’s the only match Austin has wrestled since he retired from in-ring competition after losing to The Rock at WrestleMania 19 in 2003.
WrestleMania 42 takes place in mid-April in Las Vegas, and Austin happens to own a ranch in Nevada. He recently said a return to the ring for one more match is unlikely after recovering from knee replacement surgery, but “you never say never.”
What do you expect to see from Stone Cold if he does return to WWE soon? Let me know in the comments below, Cagesiders.
