Spain boss Luis de la Fuente is preparing to announce his squad for World Cup 2026 and has dropped a few hints ahead of Monday’s big reveal.
Barcelona goalkeeper Joan Garcia is hoping to join a host of his club-mates in the squad, with De la Fuente saying he already knows which goalkeeper will be his No. 1.
“Yes, yes. I’d even tell you the starting lineup. There will be three goalkeepers, not four,” he said in an interview with Mario Suarez.
The Spain boss also hinted at potential surprises on Monday
when the squad is announced.
“The group of players is decided. It’s possible that some players who haven’t been called up before will be included,” he added.
Spain will be without Fermin Lopez due to injury, but Gavi will be hoping to get the nod. De la Fuente had some kind words for the midfielder regarding how he’s performed since returning from injury.
“We haven’t given him anything. He’s earned it after overcoming two very serious injuries. He’s in great form. When he’s not playing, he’s a player who is missed,” he explained.
De la Fuente will call up 26 players for the World Cup, with Spain set to take on Iraq and Peru in friendlies before they kick off their tournament against Cape Verde.
