Billy Gunn recently opened up about the backstage fight between CM Punk and The Elite at AEW All Out in 2022, and he seemingly thought Punk was in the right.
Gunn spoke on the topic during an interview with Inside The Ropes, during which he talked about his ongoing work with AEW. Gunn also touched on when he was inducted in the WWE Hall of Fame and how Triple H referred to Tony Khan’s promotion as a “piss ant company.”
“I don’t want to say it, but it was a dick move,” Gunn said of his friend’s insulting
comment about AEW.
At All Out in 2022, a physical altercation reportedly took place backstage between The Elite and Punk, backed by Ace Steel, and the incident was infamously dubbed “Brawl Out.”
According to reports, Kenny Omega and at least one member of The Young Bucks were injured during the skirmish, and Khan later suspended all the parties involved.
After first talking enthusiastically about Punk’s arrival to AEW in 2021 and the pop he received in his debut, Gunn was asked about “Brawl Out.” He noted that he wasn’t around when it happened and that he doesn’t “watch any of that media stuff.”
“So, I knew the incident that happened back in the thing which was what it was,” Gunn said. “They just have to realize that sometimes there’s certain veterans that just aren’t going to put with that s**t, no matter what.”
He added: “If you’re a young little buckaroo and you wanna poke the bear, get ready to get bit. And so I think that’s what happened.”
When asked about backstage incidents being used for angles “back in the day,” Gunn drew a line by saying that things were different under former WWE boss Vince McMahon.
“They do, but nothing like that,” he said. “Vince had things under control really good.”
What do you think about Gunn’s comments on “Brawl Out”? Did The Elite make a mistake in poking the Punk bear? Let us know in the comments.
