Former Real Madrid player Rafa Obrador has talked to AS about his move to Benfica in the summer of 2025.
“When Benfica called me, I didn’t think twice. It was a great opportunity. Every player’s dream is to play in the Champions League, and Benfica always competes in Europe. It’s a giant club,” he said.
Obrador is now playing for Sassuolo on a loan deal.
“Serie A has a very important history, and I think I can adapt well here. Italian football is very physical and intense, but I really like the idea
Sassuolo proposes: having possession, playing calmly, and finding spaces. As a full-back, they also ask me to play a bit more centrally, not just as the typical full-back glued to the wing. They want us to be versatile and able to offer various options to the team,” he explained.
Obrador was a quality player for Castilla but was never considered the kind of prospect that could play for Real Madrid in the long term. He will try to earn a spot in Benfica’s 2027-28 team by completing good performances in the Serie A.
