As expected.
According to 9NEWS Denver’s Mike Klis, the Denver Broncos are elevating veteran fullback Adam Prentice and veteran long snapper Mitchell Fraboni from their practice squad. This was expected after both players were released during final cuts. Both players are vested veterans and did not pass through waivers and could sign to the Broncos practice squad if they wanted.
The Broncos can elevate both players from the practice squad a max of three times before they need to add them to the 53-man
roster. This will be the first elevation for both player so they can be elevated two more times before the Broncos will be forced to make a roster decision.
Fraboni has been with the Broncos since 2022 and has been their full-time long snapper since 2023. He has appeared in all 17 games during this time and has played in a total of 55 games for the Broncos during his four years with the team. The long snapper is often a very overlooked player on Sunday’s, but when they mess up, it stands out. I cannot recall Fraboni standing out, so he has been doing a good job in my eyes.
Initially, the team had undrafted rookie long snapper Luke Basso on the practice squad after competing with Fraboni during the offseason, but he was later released to make room for veteran safety Taylor Rapp. So, Fraboni remains as the only long snapper on the Broncos roster and will likely hold down that job moving forward.
As for fullback Adam Prentice, he joined the team last season and quickly became a key member of the offense and special teams. He is a physical lead blocker who can also be a short-yardage/goal line weapon as we saw during the preseason. With the Broncos likely looking to establish the run tonight, look for the Broncos to lean on Prentice’s lead blocking ability as well as turning to him on key short-yardage situations.
Barring a spot on the 53-man roster opening up, these two will be your practice squad elevations the next two weeks. From there, the Broncos will need to add them to the 53-man roster to use them again.
