Footballing legend Arsene Wenger believes Real Madrid superstar Kylian Mbappe has often been unfairly criticised over the course of the season.
Mbappe had a great first half of the season, but injuries, inconsistency and other off-field issues derailed the season for the player and the club.
His activity off the pitch as well as his interviews did not go down well with the fanbase, and was criticised for it.
About the player, Wenger said: “Kylian Mbappé has often been unfairly criticized at this season.
He’s in a Real Madrid side that’s been average. Kylian has physical freshness, he’s not overworked. People tend to forget his exceptional talent. I’m willing to bet he has a great World Cup.
“Real Madrid has three or four world-class players. Before, they had ten. It’s very cute, but football is so made that we always need a scapegoat. He has become that.”
It is clear that the issues are not limited to just Mbappé, as a lot of things would have to change for the club to get back to winning ways.
It remains to be seen whether Mbappé has a good World Cup with France, as he generally tends to perform well for the country in the biggest stages.
