A day after bringing in former first-round draft pick Evan Neal for a tryout, the Eagles are signing the former New York Giants offensive lineman to the practice squad, according to multiple reports. The team also announced re-signing RB Jaydon Blue and LB Anfernee Orji to the practice squad, and made the E.J. Jenkins waiving official.
As Brandon Lee
Gowton wrote on Wednesday about adding Neal to the roster:
“It doesn’t hurt for the Eagles to take a flyer on Neal, who turned 26 in September. Maybe there’s some untapped potential here for this coaching staff to maximize (you might feel better about that much if Jeff Stoutland was still around).
More likely, he’s just not going to pan out in the NFL. But, hey, you never know.“
At this point the Eagles need depth up front and if there’s a shred of potential with Neal, it’s worth a shot to sign him. His versatility at multiple spots along the line is also a plus, since there’s still no continuity in Philly and players are still settling into new roles.
The team still has several roster spots they can fill on the 53-man roster, and could sign some guys off the practice squad. Bottom line, with the growing list of injuries, this isn’t the last round of roster moves for the Eagles.
