Dean Huijsen is Real Madrid’s new number four – a shirt formerly worn by club legends such as Sergio Ramos and Fernando Hierro. Real Madrid announced the new number on Monday, and the young center-back took to social media to share his delight.
“It was always my dream to be able to play for Real Madrid and with the number 4,” he said.
As a kid, Sergio Ramos was always my great idol, the one who wore the number 4 and became a true legend for Real Madrid and for world football.”
I still remember when
I used to play in his boots, the SR4s, because I wanted to be like him. Before him, another football legend wore them, like Fernando Hierro for Real Madrid and for world football, but it feels even more special to me because he’s from Málaga, just like me.
Later, another great football legend wore it, and I had the pleasure of sharing the locker room with him—David Alaba has undoubtedly been one of the best teammates and people I’ve known in this sport.
He always worked hard and was always there to help everyone with his experience and leadership.
I want to thank the club, the president, the coach, the players, and all the fans of this great club. I know this number has a past full of legends, and I hope I can write my own story and that one day people will consider me worthy of having worn this shirt and this number.
What I do know is that I’ll give everything I’ve got every single day, whether in training or a match.”
