Gotham FC announced today that the club will play their home matches at New York City FC’s new stadium, Etihad Park, starting in the 2028 season. The club’s initial lease at the venue lasts five years, with options to extend it up to 15 years.
The agreement between the two clubs includes a dedicated locker room for Gotham, as well as the ability to “flip” the branding of the stadium on matchdays via digital signage.
Gotham has played at Sports Illustrated Stadium in Harrison, NJ since 2021. The news
of the move comes after Gotham announced plans last month to invest $35 million into the club’s first dedicated training facility in Whippany, NJ, maintaining the club’s original connection to the Garden state.
The new stadium makes home games accessible to more than 3 million additional people within a 75-minute public transportation commute.
“From day one, our ambition has been bigger than championships,” said Carolyn Tisch Blodgett, the Governor of Gotham FC. “We are building one of the world’s most iconic clubs and helping define the future of women’s sports. Our move to Etihad Park reflects that ambition, and we are deeply grateful to New York City FC for their vision and commitment to helping make this historic moment possible.”
Gotham FC is set to make their Queens debut next week as they take on the Washington Spirit on July 15th as a part of the Queens Classic at Citi Field, steps away from the Etihad Park site. The club has sold 38,000 tickets so far for the historic event.
“From Sam Kerr’s legendary four-goal comeback to Midge Purce’s championship-clinching heroics, Gotham FC has given us some of the greatest moments in women’s soccer,” said New York City Mayor Zohran Kwame Mamdani. “Now the next electrifying chapter of that story will be written in New York City. Bringing Gotham FC to Queens means that the young girl kicking a ball around Jackson Heights, Jamaica or the South Bronx will be able to take the train and watch some of the best players in the world in her own city.”
