One of Arizona men’s basketball’s top recruiting targets for the 2027 class has the Wildcats in his final list of schools. And if family ties are of any importance, Arizona may have the inside track in his recruitment.
Four-star forward Kamsi Awaka announced Thursday that he’s cut his list of schools to five: Arizona, Florida, Michigan, Michigan State and UConn. The class of 2027 prospect is the younger brother of former UA big man Tobe Awaka.
Awaka, who is slightly bigger than his older brother at 6-foot-10 and 250 pounds, ranks as the No. 52 prospect in his class, to 247Sports. The recruiting outlet ranks Awaka as the No. 8 center and the top prosepct out of New Jersey.
Arizona was one of the first major programs to offer him back in May.
Awaka averaged 13.8 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 3.1 blocks this summer competing in the adidas 3SSB Circruit.
Rivals recruiting director Jamie Shaw describes Awaka this way: “Kamsi Awaka is trending in the exact direction that college basketball is heading. A big and physical post presence who patrols the paint, cleans the boards, and finishes at the front of the rim. Awaka does all of these things, and he does them at an efficient and high level.”
In other words, he does much of what his brother was known for at Arizona.
Awaka has yet to announce any recruiting visits this fall, but Arizona is sure to among the places he tours.
Arizona is still seeking its first commitment for the 2027 class.
