The pipeline continues to flow strongly for Matt Rhule and the Nebraska Cornhuskers as they add another key piece to their 2027 recruiting class. On Friday, Matt Erickson, a 3-star offensive tackle out of Millard North (Omaha, NE), announced his commitment to Nebraska, becoming the third pledge in what is shaping up to be a foundational class for the future. Erickson is currently ranked as the No. 45 offensive tackle in the nation and the No. 4 overall player in the state of Nebraska.
At 6-foot-8 and 280 pounds, Erickson brings a frame that screams Big Ten lineman. He’s hard to miss—both on film and on the field—and fits the mold of what Rhule and his staff are looking for in the trenches: long, athletic, and coachable. He’s the type of player who can be molded into a cornerstone at left tackle down the line.
While Erickson won’t draw national headlines just yet, his upside is clear. He’s well aware of the history of dominant offensive lines at Nebraska, and staying home to wear the scarlet and cream gives him a chance to write his own chapter in that legacy.
There’s still plenty of development ahead for the Millard North standout. He’ll need to adjust to the physical demands of Big Ten football and spend time in Nebraska’s strength program, but the tools are there. With time, Erickson has the potential to become a contributor—if not a standout—on the Husker offensive line.
With Erickson on board, Nebraska’s 2027 class now includes QB Trae Taylor, DB Tory Pittman, and the big man from Omaha. It’s still early, but this commitment is another sign that Rhule is building from the inside out—and he’s doing it with homegrown talent.
