Last summer, Jan Ziółkowski was brought in as a surprise move at the end of the mercato. Ziolkowski arrived for €6.6 million and was seen as a developmental piece for the future. However, his time in Rome—at least for the time being—is coming to an end.
After making 23 appearances (9 starts) in all competitions for a total of just under 800 minutes as a 20-year-old, Gian Piero Gasperini and the club appear ready to move on from Ziółkowski and look elsewhere to bolster defensive depth for the 2026-27
season. According to reports, Ziółkowski move to newly promoted Monza is all but done, at the request of former Roma manager Ivan Juric.
The move is a reportedloan deal with option to buy set at €18 million, which would result in a substantial capital gain for Roma next summer if the option is enacted. With Monza, Ziółkowski should be primed to get plenty of playing time to help in his development, making this a likely win-win for the player and club.
With Monza a likely relegation candidate and €18 million a fairly rich sum for a club of that stature, even if the option isn’t exercised, the move could bode well for Roma’s future. If Ziółkowski can accelerate his development away from the Olimpico, Roma will either have a more complete defender returning to base or a player they should be able to sell elsewhere for a decent profit.
