The 2-0 Eagles head into a Monday night showdown against the Bears. Chicago is down their starting quarterback and the hope is the Birds can cruise to a third straight victory. But these things are rarely that easy. Here is how a certain Eagles rookie can help.
Makai Lemon can break out in this game.
Outside of one catch for a first down, Lemon has yet to make a big impact as an NFL player. A limited preseason gave way to gimmicky usage to start his rookie year. But now we are three weeks in and this is a perfect chance for Lemon to have
the first big game of his NFL career.
For the Eagles, Hollywood Brown and Dallas Goedert are out. This means a lot of the Eagles receiving production will have to come from DeVonta Smith, Dontayvion Wicks, Darius Cooper and Lemon. Lemon’s already been seeing a lot of snaps, but this should increase his targets and hopefully the targets he gets downfield.
The Bears’ defense is hard to evaluate two games in, but they were a sieve against the Panthers in Week 1. I imagine Lemon sees a lot more traditional usage in this game and we get a breakout performance from the first round pick.
Other Storylines:
- I am really happy about the Zach Ertz signing. While Ertz may only be able provide a bit of juice in the passing game, I am really interested in how his presence may help Eli Stowers. Their lockers being next to each other is already a sign the coaching staff wants the Eagles legend in the rookie’s ear. I hope it works.
- We are all watching the interior offensive line closely this week. Hopefully the Eagles can get better play out of Cam Jurgens. Or maybe we get closer to seeing Micah Morris in action.
