The news has been almost nonstop for the Detroit Lions over the past week.
In just a week’s time, we had Jahmyr Gibbs become the highest-paid running back in NFL history, backup quarterback Teddy Bridgewater suddenly retired, and starting center Cade Mays suffered a broken wrist that will likely sideline him for at least the first month of the season. And during that time, there have been about a hundred interesting observations from Detroit Lions training camp.
So on this week’s PODcast, we’ve got
a ton of catching up to do.
In the first segment, we tackle all the newsy items from the week. I give a detailed breakdown of the pros and cons from Gibbs’ new contract—and what makes it different from the way they’ve approached recent extensions. Meko and I discuss the fallout from Cade Mays’ injury, and our confidence level in replacement players. Then we talk about Bridgewater’s retirement, and whether Luke Altmyer can legitimately win the backup quarterback job, or if it will go to Josh Dobbs by default.
Then, we preview the upcoming preseason opener against the Cincinnati Bengals. Here are just some of the players/positions we are looking forward to seeing—and we discuss each in-depth on this week’s show:
- Who will take command of the wide-open WR5 and/or WR6 positions?
- Can Ahmed Hassanein live up to the training camp hype?
- Will Jackson Meeks display his growth at the tight end position?
- Low-key awesome training camp battle brewing between Jacob Saylors and Jabari Small
- Is Ennis Rakestraw is real big trouble?
- How will Blake Miller look in his NFL debut? And can Seth McLaughlin take advantage of his opportunity?
All of that and a whole lot more on this week’s episode of the PODcast.
