“Lord” wasn’t happy.
Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Lightweight prospect Mauricio Ruffy tasted defeat for the first time inside the Octagon this past weekend (Sat., Sept. 6, 2025), getting submitted by hometown hero Benoit Saint Denis at UFC Paris, which took place inside Accor Arena in Paris, France (watch highlights).
The loss was a tough one for Ruffy, who has been must-watch TV and a key piece of Brazil’s “Fighting Nerds” squad. Reactions came swiftly — fans online called him a fraud, while
inside the arena teammate Carlos Prates was visibly distraught.
Now, another teammate has chimed in. Jean Silva, the fourth member of the gym’s core group, posted his own reaction to Ruffy’s loss, and it wasn’t pretty.
In the clip, Silva watches the fight with his hands on his head, hiding his eyes and squirming as Saint Denis controls the action. When Ruffy finally taps, Silva yells out and punches the wall in frustration.
Check out the clip below:
For Silva, the timing is crucial. He headlines Noche UFC 3 this weekend (Sat., Sept 13, 2025) against Diego Lopes, and after back-to-back losses for his teammates — Ruffy and team leader Caio Borralho — the pressure is on to flip the narrative. The “Fighting Nerds” went from being MMA’s next super-gym to internet fodder in the span of one night.
If Silva can deliver in the Noche UFC 3 main event, it could reset the conversation and reestablish the group as contenders. If not, the backlash may only get louder.
Either way, things just got very interesting for Brazil’s most hyped fight team.
