The New England Patriots will descend down to 53 without a member of the 2025 draft class.
The organization waived outside linebacker Bradyn Swinson ahead of the NFL roster deadline on Sunday, according to a report from Doug Kyed of the Boston Herald.
Swinson, 23, arrived in the fifth round of last year’s NFL draft at No. at No. 146 overall. The 6-foot-4, 255-pound former transfer from Oregon to LSU cleared waivers following his rookie preseason and signed to the practice squad in Foxborough at its
formation.
From there, Swinson earned a promotion to the active roster in November and finished the campaign having appeared in four matchups, including the AFC Championship Game versus the Denver Broncos. Those matchups brought 27 snaps on defense, 31 snaps on special teams and one solo tackle for the edge rusher.
New England trimmed from 91 to 73 players on the eve of the NFL’s deadline while acquiring running back Corey Kiner via trade. From there, defensive tackle Eric Gregory marked Sunday’s first reported departure to get the club to 72.
By 6 p.m. ET, active rosters around the league will stand at 53.
