A few takeaways now that we know the finer details of the schedule:
The NFL absolutely refuses to give the Panthers a good bye week. In 2024, they had a perfect Week 11 bye. That
is the only November bye the Panthers have gotten since 2017. Every other one is either very early or very late in the season. That continues this year with the Panthers getting a bye in Week 5, which is much too early to use it for any sort of advantage or respite.
The other most notable detail is the fact that the Panthers got three primetime games. They weren’t good last year, but they did make the playoffs, and that makes them interesting enough to the masses to put them in front of a national audience. They get a national game on each day of the week, and they should all be interesting match-ups provided we don’t get the usual “Panthers get blown out on national TV” like we’ve come to expect.
The Panthers play more AFC North teams than they do NFC South teams in the final quarter of the season. Outside of the season finale, the Panthers will be done with divisional games in Week 14. The games are spread throughout the season, and the Panthers are going to need to well in those games given how tough the non-division schedule is looking.
Outside of the Seahawks in Week 17, and the Panthers did seemingly get a softer finish to their schedule than start, which is what you’d prefer. There’s more variance in early season NFL games, which gives underdogs a better chance to pick off a superior team. Teams tend to start playing more at their levels by the end of the season. There could be five wins in the last seven games if the Panthers are playing well by that point in the season. If they can stay above water for the first half of the year, they’ll be in a good spot to make a late season push.
