You often hear people around the NFL describe the regular season as a marathon and not a sprint. That is good news for the Detroit Lions because after a bumpy Week 4 loss in Carolina, they are back on the road this week to visit the Arizona Cardinals for a Week 5 matchup. To preview Sunday’s game, my good friend Meko Scott and I are back with a new episode of “Before the Roar.”
We start with a quick overview of the Cardinals’ 2026 season so far and how they got to a 1-3 record. From there, we jump
into what makes the Arizona offense go, and, to nobody’s surprise, much of our conversation centered on their All-Pro tight end Trey McBride. The Lions have struggled defending tight ends through four weeks of the season, so having a plan to at least slow down the focal point of the Cardinals’ offense has to be the first order of business for Lions defensive coordinator Kelvin Sheppard and his staff.
On the other side of the football, we discuss how good Arizona’s run defense has been through one month, and how nose tackle Roy Lopez can affect an offense’s game plan without stuffing the stat sheet. We also touch on safety Budda Baker’s impact, and whether the Lions should try to pass early to set up the run. You can watch the entire episode on the Pride of Detroit YouTube channel right here.
