This weekend I noticed something has shifted for me with Husker football and college football as a whole. That shift?
I noticed Husker fans were angry with a team that was winning a game against a conference opponent. I also noticed that there was a whole lot of schadenfreude around college football and I could revel in the misery of others again.
For a long time, Nebraska has been so hapless and mistake-prone that it was easy to be mad when watching a game. Anger flowed freely over the latest blown
chance or crucial mistake. It also wasn’t fun when other teams did stupid things or imploded spectacularly – mostly because Nebraska was often leading that pack.
Now, I geniunely enjoyed reading through the carnage of the football weekend. It is fun to read about the Penn States and Texas’ of the world. The Huskers weren’t great, but they didn’t make any appearances in the “let’s make fun of these teams” articles.
The Husker football team is far from a finished product or for contending for hardware. But, at least there is a level of grit we haven’t seen for a while. There is also a general expectation that the team can execute most plays without disasterous consequences.
I’m going to enjoy this new plateau even as I know there is still a big hill to climb to being relevant again.
What was your takeaway from the carnage of the weekend? Whose misery are you enjoying most?

How Nebraska’s offense flipped the script in 2025
When you’re leading an offense averaging nearly 352 passing yards a game, you’ve earned the right to rock a chain, and even pack a lip, on the sideline. Nebraska offensive coordinator Dana Holgorsen has done that and more in 2025.

You can step back and see that James Franklin has finished inside the top-10 five times in his 11 seasons while winning two-thirds of his Big 12 games. That’s quite good without any other context. At the same time, we all know the bad stuff too: 1-10 against Ohio State, 4-21 against top-10 opponents, constantly hitting his head on a ceiling in the most important games.

Is there a specific age at which we are the happiest?
Research has lots to say about when we’re at our happiest (or saddest) in life. “For many years we had this U-shaped happiness curve,” says psychologist Prof Jolanta Burke. Happiness peaked first in our early 20s, hit rock bottom in middle age and then started going up again in our 50s before peaking again at 70. Hence, the U-shape.
