Syracuse Head Coach Felisha Legette-Jack is looking for a bounce-back season for the Orange in 25-26. After a 12-18 season, the Orange have overhauled their roster with 8 new players joining the team.
Legette-Jack is looking for the new players to have a big impact on the Orange, and is looking for returner Sophie Burrows to take the lead on the court. No one is expecting Syracuse to be in NCAA Tournament contention this year, but Syracuse enters the season with a focus on versatility, athleticism and a renewed focus.
The Orange are trying to get back to playing defense and using that to transition to offense. Legette-Jack thinks incoming forward Izoje Uche, who transitions from playing in Japan, could surprise people with her impact. The expectation is that the Orange depth will be on display as the team looks to utilize more “position less basketball” with players who can slide into different roles.
The ability of Laila Phelia to return from eye surgery to the on-court impact that led her to All Big Ten honors could be critical for the Orange’s success. Phelia and Domonique Darius had experience to the Syracuse roster and Legette-Jack thinks that the duo can help her team surprise people this season.
