As expected, Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa will officially start Sunday’s matchup vs. the Los Angeles Chargers, head coach Mike McDaniel confirmed during his Friday afternoon press conference
(10/10).
Earlier in the week, Tagovailoa showed up on the injury report with injuries to both his hip and thumb, but as expected, neither will keep Tagovailoa out of action vs. the Chargers. When asked whether or not Tua had any issues gripping the ball, McDaniel didn’t seem concerned.
“He fully participated the whole week.”
Tua’s hip injury, however, appears to be completely unrelated to the left hip injury that forced him to miss two games a season ago. And for a quarterback that already has a plethora of concerns surrounding his health, this is something we’ll have to monitor closely in the coming weeks.
“Different hip than last year… same hip (as in college), but completely different injury. Unrelated to any other hip-related issue is what he was getting treated for”, McDaniel said.
Through the first five games of the season, Tagovailoa has completed 70.7% of his passes for 1,008 yards, ten touchdowns, and four interceptions. Miami’s offense is averaging 21.4 points per game, which ranks 21st in the league. Unfortunately for Miami, the defense is allowing 29 points per game, which is 27th in the league.
Something has to change on both sides of the ball, which is what the Dolphins hope to do on Sunday. Thankfully for Miami and its fanbase, Tua Tagovailoa will be starting, giving the fans at least one more Tua vs. Herbert showdown.
