The Portland Trail Blazers have claimed power forward/center Micah Potter off waivers, the organization announced on Friday.
The Indiana Pacers waived the 6-foot-9 Potter on Wednesday to create enough room below the team’s first-apron hard cap to sign veteran Larry Nance Jr.
Following stints with the Detroit Pistons and Utah Jazz, Potter, 28, found opportunity on an injury-plagued Indiana team and appeared in a career-high 47 games this past season. In those appearances, Potter averaged 9.7 points,
5 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 19.3 minutes per game while shooting 51.5% from the field, 84.2% from the free throw line, and 42.3% from beyond the 3-point arc (3.6 attempts per game). He’ll be entering his sixth NBA season in October.
By claiming Potter off waivers, the Blazers assume his contract and are on the hook for the remainder of his salary. Before waiving Potter, Indiana had exercised its $2.8 million team option on his contract for the 2026-27 season, though that salary is currently non-guaranteed. These contract terms will remain the same for Portland.
Potter will be joining a full center room in Portland that features Donovan Clingan, Robert Williams III, Yang Hansen and another recent addition in Branden Carlson. If the Blazers choose to deploy Potter as a power forward, there’s more room for minutes on a relatively shallow forward depth chart.
The addition of Potter now puts Portland’s active roster at 14 players, not counting two-ways.
