Jake Paul appears set to take by far the biggest risk of the marketing venture he’s called his boxing career.
Mike Coppinger is reporting that Paul and Anthony Joshua are “finalizing” a heavyweight fight
for December in Miami, which comes on the heels of Paul canceling a planned November 14 exhibition with lightweight titleholder Gervonta “Tank” Davis.
We’ll have to wait for an official announcement and know what, if any, “special” rules are in place before getting too excited, because Paul and Joshua had reportedly negotiated before only for Paul to wind up scheduled to “fight” someone a foot shorter and 100-plus lbs lighter, but this looks like it might really be happening.
Joshua (28-4, 25) hasn’t fought since his September 2024 loss to Daniel Dubois, and the 36-year-old is definitely not in peak form these days, but he is still a legitimate top 10 heavyweight and a very dangerous, powerful man. Do not make any mistake: If Jake Paul really fights Anthony Joshua next month, it’s miles beyond the previous biggest tests of Paul’s “boxing career” to date.
And the last time a novice boxer whose punching power was touted as his key weapon got into a boxing ring with him, Joshua absolutely obliterated former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou inside of two rounds.
Paul (12-1, 7 KO) last fought in June, winning a dull but clear decision over the husk of Julio Cesar Chavez Jr, a middleweight who faced Paul with a cruiserweight limit.
Paul has physically carried heavyweight well before, as he weighed in at a bit over 227 lbs for his November 2024 sham of a fight with an ancient Mike Tyson.
