Back in March, Borussia Dortmund and then-sporting director Sebastian Kehl agreed to part ways, which caused a little temporary havoc in the club’s effort to sign star center-back Nico Schlotterbeck to a contract extension.
The deal would eventually get done without Kehl, but his exit played a role in Schlotterbeck’s initial delay in inking the contract. Now, Kehl could be about to land on his feet in England with Tottenham Hotspur.
Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg is reporting that Kehl
is firmly in the mix for a director position with Tottenham, but also that nothing is imminent:
🚨💣 EXCL | Sebastian Kehl is now the leading candidate for a role as Tottenham’s new director.
Spurs’ board want him to rebuild the team alongside Johan Lange. Kehl’s career as a top player, his management skills and his extensive international network are highly valued within the club and during the conversations.
However, a quick decision does not appear imminent. Sources close to Kehl indicate that the former BVB sporting director has not yet decided whether he wants to return to the game immediately or take some time off first.
Tottenham Hotspur is embroiled in a race to avoid relegation and there could be many changes in the organization and on the roster if the seemingly unthinkable happens and Spurs earn relegation. It is hard to predict what that would mean for Kehl and any hopes he has for a job with Tottenham.
