After a smashing 6-0 victory, Bayern Munich have set a great tone forward in the new season. New players, new roles get a fresh start. Serge Gnabry has a rare opportunity with the injury of Jamal Musiala and the exit of club legend Thomas Müller. So far, Gnabry has steadily gotten better at second striker/CAM position. Team manager Vincent Kompany gave the player his full backing after a good performance against RB Leipzig.
Manager’s full backing
In the post-match interview(as captured by @iMiaSanMia), Kompany gave his
take on Gnabry’s quality as player. He said “Serge is a very underrated player. There’s the opinion of people outside. And there’s our opinion at the club, and the opinion of his teammates. I think he’s a very underrated player, he doesn’t have many weaknesses.”
With a vacant position behind Harry Kane, Gnabry has been used alternately with Michael Olise to fill for Musiala’s absence. And the results have been promising so far. 2 assists before this match followed by three chances and two assists against Leipzig on the first match day are great signs.
Kompany highlighted Gnabry’s ability to score and create. “He’s been important in the big games for FC Bayern in the past. There’s almost no highlight without a Serge goal or assist. I’m not surprised because this is his normal level. I’m happy for him. He played this central role for the national team and for Bayern in the past. I’m happy we have this opportunity with Serge” said Kompany of Gnabry’s showing against RB.
Bayern Munich and RB Leipzig locked horns for what was anticipated as a clash of titans to raise the curtain for the forthcoming Bundesliga season, but what followed was a massacre of Biblical proportions. Bayern had looked shaky in their last few outings, and Leipzig had a lot to prove after some big changes in the team, which meant that both teams, while possessing some massive talents, had chips on their shoulders and something to strive towards.
Helping us dissect the corpse left in Bayern’s wake is Rayyan (Cyler), returning to the pod after a lengthy hiatus to perform some semblance of autopsy, although it seems this game was far more about the pure joy of watching what happened than picking apart the details of what actually did happen. In this edition, we feature:-
- A run-down of the starting XI and shape of both teams.
- The series of events that led to the defining moments of the game, and patterns from before that re-emerged.
- Some final (giddy) thoughts of what this Bayern team could look like going forward.
- A lot, a lot, a lot, of uncontrollable giddy giggling at the mere thought of this match’s existence (sorry).
