Thursday’s practice for the Dallas Cowboys gave all of us some scares on the injury front. After rookie linebacker Jaishawn Barham and defensive lineman Otito Ogbonnia exited practice with injuries, we now have updates on what happened and early reports on the severity.
We also have reports from training camp, including a great day of practice for Brevyn Spann-Ford, and the addition of a new tight end.

Jaishawn Barham has had an incredible start to training camp, but he gave us all a scare in Thursday’s
practice. Early reports sound like he’ll be just fine.
It doesn’t appear as if the injury is serious and the Cowboys will likely just monitor Barham’s progress in the next few days. The third-round pick from Michigan has been getting some first-team reps at linebacker, alongside Dee Winters. Barham has been overly impressive with his quickness to the ball and his physicality, which was also on display earlier in practice when he mixed it up with running back Israel Abanikanda on a 1-on-1 drills.

Otito Ogbonnia exited Thursday’s practice, but he did return to the field and finish practice. Ogbonnia has had a strong training camp and expects to play a big role in 2026.
According to Joseph Hoyt of the Dallas Morning News, defensive lineman Otito Ogbonnia briefly exited to the medical tent during practice before eventually returning.

The Cowboys lost TE Princeton Fant for the season earlier this week to a torn ACL. Former Las Vegas Raider Zack Kuntz will take his place on the roster.
The Dallas Cowboys lost tight end Princeton Fant to a torn ACL on Monday. In a move to replace him, they have claimed Zack Kuntz off waivers from the Las Vegas Raiders per Nick Harris of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
Kuntz is a former seventh-round pick of the New York Jets in 2023. In two seasons with the team, Kuntz only appeared in two games an didn’t log any stats.

Thursday’s practice gave a nice look into a few players trying to breakout in 2026. Brevyn Spann-Ford is looking to do that and more.
Spann-Ford had what I’d call the best individual practice of the day and his best in camp yet. He made a spectacular diving catch over the middle of the field with safety Markquese Bell in coverage. Bell did not stand a chance.
Then came the run game. Running back Javonte Williams ripped off a big gain, and there was Spann-Ford as a pulling blocker, completely swallowing up linebacker DeMarvion Overshown and opening up the lane.

We already knew Caleb Downs was smart. But we’re now seeing why his intelligence is so highly regarded in the football world.
Parker has been pleased with Downs’ willingness to learn, particularly as he navigates different positions. It stood out to the 34-year-old Parker, who had success helping young defensive backs thrive in his previous role with the Philadelphia Eagles, during the pre-draft process.
“Curiosity is one thing for young players that you really look for,” Parker said. “They want to know the why behind everything.”
