There were bits of Jays’ news yesterday that I missed.
Not that it was news, but the Jays game Bo Bichette a Qualifying Offer. $22.025, which sounds like a lot of money.
Bo will be looking for a contract
for around ten years. That’s a longer contract than I’d want to give him, but if they want to keep him, they will need to go that long and likely somewhere in the $240 to $280 million range. I’d imagine they would want to talk him into making the change to second base a permanent thing.
Lets have a poll:
Twelve others got Qualifying offers:
- Kyle Tucker, OF, Cubs
- Kyle Schwarber, OF/DH, Phillies
- Framber Valdez, LHP, Astros
- Dylan Cease, RHP, Padres
- Ranger Suárez, LHP, Phillies
- Edwin Díaz, RHP, Mets
- Zac Gallen, RHP, Diamondbacks
- Shōta Imanaga, LHP, Cubs
- Michael King, RHP, Padres
- Trent Grisham, OF, Yankees
- Gleyber Torres, 2B, Tigers
- Brandon Woodruff, RHP, Brewers
The Red Sox didn’t give Lucas Giolito a QO, nor did the Yankees give one to Devin Williams.
Also the Jays made some roster moves:
- Angel Bastardo, Bowden Francis, Nick Sandlin and Yimi Garcia have all be reinstated from the IL.
- Catcher Brandon Valenzuela was added to the 40-man roster.
- Ryan Burr cleared waivers and is a free agent.
- Robinson Pina cleared waivers, and was outrighted to the Bisons.
- Dillon Tate cleared waivers and is a free agent.
The Jays have picked up John Schneider’s option, so he will remain the manager next year, and they are discussing an extension. Clearly, the players like him, and I’m good with keeping the players happy and keeping the clubhouse the way it was this season. I don’t know how you could quantify it, but I think that’s worth a fair bit.
Tuesday we find out if he is AL Manager of the Year.
Kevin Gausman could run for PM:
Third baseman Munetaka Murakami, from Japan (gee, thanks Tom, everyone would have thought he was one of those German Munetakas) will be posted today. He hit .286/.392/.659 in Japan this season. He’s just 25 (26 in February. I wonder how many teams he’s will string along before signing with the Dodgers?
Dodgers fans are going to make me like them….
