Duke had a tremendous first half against #1 Princeton, down just 6-4 at the break. But there were signs that the Tigers were about to take it to another level, which they did in the third quarter.
For a time in the third, Princeton seemed to score at will. The Tigers hit some truly dazzling shots. Duke’s defense, which had been relentless in the first half, buckled against the onslaught as Princeton pulled ahead, 11-6.
The fourth quarter was less dynamic, but the story was written: Duke was game, and
played hard, but Princeton was clearly the better team.
Losing is never a great feeling, but it’s not as bad when you lose to a team that’s definitely better, and Princeton absolutely was. They struck like a coiled snake. That offense is going to be a load on Monday in the championship.
Still, it was a great run for Duke. This was not a vintage Blue Devil team, but they got within smelling distance of a championship, and that’s pretty great. ––––
