The long-awaited HBO Max docu-series on UFC star Ilia Topuria now has a date.
Nine months ago, a trailer for ‘Los Topuria’ appeared promising an inside look into Ilia Topuria’s life. We doubt the producers of the show expected “El Matator” to battle with his wife instead of in the cage, but the show must go on. A new press release from HBO Max
has ‘Los Topuria’ set to debut in June with three 50 minute episodes. That lines up perfectly with Topuria’s big UFC White House fight against Justin Gaethje
to unify the lightweight title.
“THE TOPURIA FAMILY arrives on HBO Max in June,” the press release read. “Two-time UFC world champion Ilia Topuria, his family, and his closest circle star in this new original production that invites the audience to follow the journey of the Georgian-Spanish fighter from the conquest of his first featherweight world championship belt to the present day, as he prepares to headline the biggest UFC event in history on June 14 at the White House.”
“Produced by Señor Mono for HBO Max, the new documentary series LOS TOPURIA consists of three 50-minute episodes that will be available next June on the streaming service in all territories where it is available globally.”
Señor Mono is the same company that made the excellent hype documentary ‘Matador,’ which came out in 2024 and followed Ilia Topuria’s arrival in the UFC up to his win over Alexander Volkanovski for the featherweight title. That film was great, but wasn’t exactly a ‘warts and all’ documentary that captured any real personal drama in Ilia’s life. It will be interesting to see whether ‘Los Topuria’ digs into the tumultuous divorce the Spanish sports star has just gone through.
“Viewers will be able to follow Topuria’s journey to glory,” the press release stated. “A path filled with sacrifice, effort, and discipline, where he has been surrounded and supported every step of the way by his pillars of strength: his family, his closest friends, and his team of trainers. Throughout the series, LOS TOPURIA allows viewers to get a glimpse into the more personal side of this sports legend, both inside and outside the UFC octagon, revealing his life as a father, son, brother, friend, and businessman, guided by his inner circle.”
