Newcastle United has spent years attempting to modernize the infrastructure around the club, and now the PIF ownership is finaly gearing up to take that transformation to an entirely different level with a permanent new home for the Magpies’ first team and academy players.
On Wednesday, The Daily Mail’s Craig Hope revealed the first details and images of Newcastle’s proposed £190 million (€219 million) state-of-the-art training complex at Woolsington, near Newcastle Airport. The leaked images come
from a brochure produced by architects Populous, which is set to lead the project.
“These are the stunning images of Newcastle United’s new £190million state-of-the-art training ground,” Hope reported.
The scale of the development is enormous. Newcastle purchased a 260-acre site previously owned by former chairman Sir John Hall and his family, with plans including 17 full-size pitches for the senior and academy teams.
Hope reported that the architects’ drawings also feature an “energy centre,” “health village,” “members’ club” and “war room.” Perhaps the most distinctive element is a hub named “The Stables,” which will overlook a walled garden.
The designs remain subject to planning approval and could still change, but Newcastle is targeting completion by the summer of 2029.
The £190 million project comes despite the club recently spending another £10 million (€11.5 million) extending the current training facilities.
If approved and delivered as currently envisioned, the development would represent one of the clearest physical demonstrations yet of Newcastle’s long-term ambitions under PIF ownership, with the announcement and building of a new stadium to replace St. James’ Park set to follow.
