Jude Bellingham has given fans a rare and intimate look into one of the most challenging chapters of his young career, publishing a deeply personal video on his YouTube channel documenting the shoulder surgery he underwent in July 2025.
Titled “Jude – Under The Knife,” the video pulls back the curtain on a process footballers almost never share publicly. Filmed at the Fortius Clinic in London, the documentary-style feature walks viewers through the full experience — from pre-operation nerves to the realities
of living with a long-term injury that had quietly shaped Bellingham’s performances for years.
The origin of the issue dates back over three years, to his Borussia Dortmund days, when he first damaged his left shoulder. What followed was a cycle of repeated dislocations — a lingering problem he managed while continuing to perform at an elite level for both club and country. Rather than opting for immediate surgery, Bellingham delayed the procedure multiple times, prioritizing availability for his teams during crucial stretches.
That decision, however, came at a cost.
In the video, Bellingham openly discusses how the instability in his shoulder began to affect the rest of his body. Compensations elsewhere led to discomfort beyond the initial injury, something that increasingly became impossible to ignore. By the end of the 2024/25 season, the need for a long-term solution had become clear.
“I realized I shouldn’t take playing and winning for granted,” Bellingham reflects in the video, hinting at both the physical and mental toll the injury had taken.
One of the most striking aspects of the documentary is its rawness. Cameras follow Bellingham into the operating room, capturing moments that are almost never made public. Viewers see him moments before surgery, wearing an anesthesia mask — a scene he admits was the most nerve-wracking part of the entire process. The footage doesn’t shy away from the vulnerability of the situation, showing him unconscious and surrounded by surgeons as the procedure begins.
It’s a level of transparency that stands out in a sport where injuries are often discussed in vague, controlled terms.
Bellingham ultimately chose to undergo surgery after the 2025 Club World Cup, accepting that it would sideline him for the opening months of the 2025/26 season. It was a calculated sacrifice: short-term absence in exchange for long-term stability.
The decision also sheds light on something he mentioned in conversation with Managing Madrid’s Kiyan Sobhani earlier in the summer — that opponents had begun targeting his shoulder, even tugging at the brace he wore during matches. Playing through the issue was not just painful, but strategically exploitable:
Now, with the operation behind him, the focus shifts to recovery and what comes next.
If anything, the video reinforces how much Bellingham had been enduring behind the scenes while continuing to deliver at the highest level.
