Throughout training camp the Jets have been conducting a competition at kicker to replace Nick Folk. Former Dolphins kicker Jason Sanders has gone against journeyman Cade York.
The team has made a decision. York has been waived.
This alone would not guarantee that the team has chosen Sanders. It wouldn’t be inconceivable for the Jets to bring in additional competition before the preseason finale Friday night against the Giants.

Chris Banjo explained the decision to the media shortly after the news broke. Banjo indicated that the team is comfortable going into the season with Sanders handling the placekicking duties.
The timing of this decision is interesting from the standpoint that both kickers struggled in practice yesterday. Sanders himself missed three of five field goal attempts.
But the Jets have decided the entire body of work is more significant than a single rough practice.
There is a logic to this. Sanders was perfect through the first two preseason games. He missed 2025 with an injury but hit more than 90% of his field goal attempts two years ago the last time he played.
He also has a First Team All Pro selection to his name, which he earned in 2021.
At the kicker spot you are always a few missed attempts from lacking job security, but is sounds like the Jets are comfortable with Jason Sanders as their Week 1 kicker.
