Belgium produced a decent finish at the recently concluded 2026 World Cup, falling 2-1 to eventual champions Spain in the quarterfinals. Head coach Rudi Garcia left his post upon the expiration of his contract with the Red Devils. Former Bayern Munich and Netherlands captain Mark van Bommel has emerged as a candidate for the job:
Van Bommel had an excellent playing career, turning out for PSV Eindhoven, Bayern, FC Barcelona, and AC Milan over the course of a 21-year stint. His coaching career began with PSV in 2018 before coaching VfL Wolfsburg in 2021, where he led the Wolves to the top of the Bundesliga before flaming out and getting sacked after just four months. His last job was as coach of Royal Antwerp from 2022 to 2024, his longest tenure as a coach yet.
With Belgium now in the midst of a transition from the old guard to the new, the Royal Belgian FA must choose its next manager wisely.
