Bayern Munich alum David Alaba reflected on his time playing for the German Rekordmeister in a pre-World Cup interview for SI Germany. The 33-year-old is departing Real Madrid after five seasons playing for the LaLiga giants and Champions League stalwarts — but of course, he tasted no less than magnificent success in Bavaria, too.
“That was a formative time for me as a player and as a person,” Alaba said (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “I matured and grew up there, I experienced bitter defeats and celebrated
many titles. FC Bayern will always have a place in my heart. After 13 years, Munich became a second home for me, I really enjoyed living there.”
Bayern fans will have a special place in their heart for Alaba as well, the man who blossomed from promising teenager to full-fledged star in his more than a decade at Bayern before his departure in 2021. The veteran is still headlining the Austrian national team under Ralf Rangnick, and fans will have the pleasure of watching him compete this summer at the Men’s World Cup.
Austria has been drawn in Group J and will play group stage matches against Jordan (June 16th), Argentina (June 22nd), and Algeria (June 27th).
