Coming into this one, Syracuse was 1 game behind the second place RailRiders (38-28) and 1.5 games behind the first place Redwings (40-28). With the two teams playing each other, Syracuse was guaranteed to gain ground on somebody. The Mets got on the board first, with Hayden Senger launching his twelfth home run of the season in the top of the third to drive in himself and Ryan Clifford, who was on third base on a triple. An inning later, Eric Wagaman drove in a pair to double
Syracuse’s lead to 4-0. Justin Hagenman had been pitching well, allowing just a single run in the fourth before being removed from the game, but Ryan Lambert had no such luck. The right-hander allowed a three-run homer to tie the game up and then walked another batter before being taken out of the game having recorded just two outs. His replacement, Brian Metoyer, allowed a home run before getting out of the inning, and just like that, Syracuse trailed 6-4. Billy Amick brought Syracuse within one with two out solo shot in the ninth, but Ryan Clifford grounded out weakly to short to end things. With their loss, combined with Scranton/Wilkes-Barre’s, Syracuse is now 2 games behind the RailRiders and 2.5 games behind the Red Wings. They will finish up the season at home taking on the 32-25 Lehigh Valley IronPigs while Rochester will be playing the 31-35 Buffalo Bisons and the RailRiders will be playing the 29-39 Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp.
