MMA Fighting has the CJI 2 fight card for the grappling event from the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas.
CJI 2 is a two-day event taking place on Aug. 30 and Aug. 31, featuring some of the premier grapplers in the world, plus one superfight. The superfight was supposed to be a matchup of Craig Jones vs. Olympic gold medalist Gable Steveson, but Steveson withdrew from the event earlier this week. Instead, UFC Hall of Famer Chael Sonnen steps in on short notice to face Jones, a rematch of their 2017
ADCC match that Jones won via heel hook.
Aside from the superfight, CJI 2 is primarily about its two tournaments, one a team-based tournament, with eight teams comprised of five grapplers, one from each weight class, going head-to-head for a $1 million prize. The eight teams competing are 10th Planet, Americas, Atos, Australasia, B-Team, Daisy Fresh, Europe, and New Wave.
The other tournament is a four-person women’s tournament with Helena Crevar, Adele Fornarino, Ana Carolina Vieira, and Sarah Galvao competing for a $100,000 prize.
Night One of CJI 2 features the team tournament quarterfinals and the women’s semi-final matchups. It takes place on Aug. 31 at 8:30 p.m. ET and can be streamed on YouTube.
Night Two of CJI 2 features the team tournament semi-finals and finals, the women’s tournament finals, and the Craig Jones vs. Chael Sonnen superfight. It takes place on Aug. 31 at 8:30 p.m. ET and can be streamed on YouTube.
