Veteran Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Lightweight Lando Vannata returns to action this weekend (Sat., April 4, 2026) against winless Darrius Flowers at UFC Vegas 115 inside the Meta Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada.
And it’s been a long time coming.
Vannata hasn’t competed since UFC Kansas City in 2023, where he lost a unanimous decision to Mexican prospect Daniel Zellhuber.
And then, poof! “Groovy” vanished. So, what happened?
Vannata was booked a couple of times in late 2023 and again in 2024, but
both fights fell through. After that, he went quiet — leaving fans wondering what exactly happened.
Now, we finally have an answer.
“Life,” Vannata told UFC.com when asked where he’s been. “Life, man. I had some medical stuff going on, had life going on. I was dealing with real-world things. But I’m coming out the other side in a good place, and I’m excited. I always train, but it wasn’t until a year ago that I got back to full-training.”
And surprisingly, the time away may have done him some good.
“It was good, man. Physically and mentally, there was no pressure,” Vannata said. “I could just do what I wanted, and it allowed me to soak up everything. I did a lot of jiu-jitsu the last few years and a lot of Muay Thai, so it allowed me to open up my game in a lot of different areas…I got my black belt in BJJ that time.”
Despite holding a 4-7-1 UFC record, Vannata has never been a boring fighter.
From his short-notice war with Tony Ferguson in his debut — where he nearly pulled off a massive upset — to four straight Performance of the Night bonuses (three FOTN) early in his career, “Groovy” has built a reputation on chaos.
And that chaos could be on full display again this weekend.
Flowers is known for his aggressive, all-action style — especially early — which could play directly into Vannata’s wheelhouse. In fact, Vannata has already said he expects to find a finish in the second or third round.
One more thing?
He’s not worried about ring rust.
