Fleet Week was this past weekend in San Francisco. When the Blue Angels really get rocking with their aerial tricks, it’s such an overwhelming combination of power and precision. They go so fast and turn so tight and everything feels both explosive and hyper-accurate.
That’s what it felt like watching Mike Evans play today. I’ve always known him as an amazing player, but to sit through the whole arc of the game and experience the highest stake moments was something else. The way he just physically
dominates his match-up, grabbing the ball through dudes, reaching those Go-Gadget arms into the cosmos in a tightly-coordinated sequence…. he looks like a freaking fighter jet out there.
Today revealed to us that the sky’s the limit for the 2026 49ers. This is it. They’re here. Their biggest opponent is the medical tent. Otherwise, I’m officially on board the full hype train. This team is a rocket ship. What a wild ride.
49ers’ Brock Purdy could have buckled vs. Seahawks. Instead, he found Mike Evans (paywall)
“Purdy said he kept an eye out for situations in which Evans was matched with single coverage, and the Seahawks obliged on the biggest drive of the game. What’s more unusual is that the quarterback also looked Evans’ way when he was double-covered.
Purdy admitted he’s had to readjust his programming with Evans on the roster. Usually, if a target is doubled, he automatically moves onto the next option. Evans, however, is so powerful and trustworthy when the ball is in the air that the quarterback has learned to fight his instincts and give him a chance.”
Grading 49ers’ statement Week 5 win over Seahawks as Mike Evans stars in victory
“The 49ers’ defensive line has been much better than expected, and a lot of that is because Morris has made the pieces fit with their nine-man rotation.
Morris’ biggest influence has been with the play of the secondary. The 49ers’ corners and safeties are playing with extreme confidence because of how they are being coached up.”
Kawakami: What’s different about the 2026 49ers? Mike Evans. It’s all Mike Evans (paywall)
“It’s really cool to get new guys who come in and they just continue to up the standard that the Niners have built for so long,” Christian McCaffrey said.
That’s a big statement from a player who rarely gushes about anything.
But this might communicate even more: When McCaffrey walked to the podium immediately following Evans, he glanced at Evans, shook his head dramatically and said one sentence.
“That guy is unbelievable.”
Mike Evans is a difference maker generally; very specifically, he’s what the 49ers are all beginning to sense and enunciate: On Sunday and maybe for a lot more games, he was the difference between beating the Seahawks and not beating them. And the value of that in this division and this league is just about everything.”
Mike Evans stars in 49ers’ win: ‘Exactly why he’s here’
“I’m on the sideline watching him do crazy stuff,” Warner said. “I’m like, we have Mike Evans. I can’t believe it. And he’s unreal. He really doesn’t say anything. He just shows up every week and just works and then goes out there on Sunday and just dominates you.”
Evans was even on point when it came to his trash talk. In a moment that went viral during the game, Evans was seen going back and forth with Seahawks cornerback Trevon Diggs. After exchanging words, Evans turned Diggs’ shoulder to take a look and see who, exactly, he was talking to.
“I was blocking him to the whistle and then he said something like, ‘I’m doing extra,’ or something like that,” Evans said. “And I didn’t know that was him at first because I played against him a few times and we always been cool. He was a good player. And I honestly didn’t know it was him because in the helmet, it’s hard to tell sometimes. And we were talking trash and I think I pushed him and then I was like, ‘Who are you?’ I looked to make sure, ‘Oh, it’s f—ing Diggs.” And then he mushed me. It should have been a penalty. But yeah, it is what it is.”
49ers win a thriller over the Seahawks to remain undefeated
“Are you not entertained? This was the most San Francisco 49ers-Seattle Seahawks game you’ll see.”
