The pro wrestling rumor mill includes a lot of fun “internal talk” at WWE and AEW today. Let’s see what they’re spending so much time talking about!
Top Rumor of the Day: The John Cena Classic
It became apparent soon after John Cena announced the John Cena Classic that the idea was very much a “work in progress,” with very few details ironed out in time for John’s appearance at WWE Backlash.
The latest drop from WrestleVotes Radio’s sources indicate that WWE doesn’t even have a date or venue planned for the John Cena Classic. That being said,
the most logical landing spot on the calendar appears to be in December, falling between Survivor Series and Royal Rumble.
Keep in mind that WWE hasn’t booked a main roster PLE in December in recent years, which potentially creates an opening for the John Cena Classic. December also happens to be the same time of year when Cena gave up in his final career match against GUNTHER.
A Votes’ source claims that Netflix expressed “immediate interest” in hosting the John Cena Classic on its streaming platform, but that aspect of it isn’t nailed down either. In fact, “very little about the concept” is finalized at this point. That sure is some history-making news!
The rest of the rumors!
- WrestleVotes says there is a “heavy push” internally at AEW to bring in New Day for at least one match with the promotion, and probably more than that, with many wrestlers on the roster very eager to work with them.
- However, a name change will be required for New Day in AEW. Xavier Woods will likely go with “Austin Creed” as his ring name, whereas Kofi Kingston might be able to use the name “Kofi.”
- According to PW Insider, former women’s world champion Stephanie Vaquer is expected back on WWE programming soon, with there being some internal talk about an appearance on next week’s episode of Raw.
- Wrestling Observer Radio’s Dave Meltzer says there are serious talks about bringing in Stephen A. Smith to WWE. He goes on to claim that “a lot of the people who were not happy about Pat McAfee, in fact are favorable to Stephen A, as far as internally, it goes.”
- Votes mentioned that the original plan was for AAA TripleMania 34 to take place on one night, on September 12 in Mexico City. However, now that WWE has changed it to a two night event, there is a lot of internal speculation that the first night will actually take place in the United States of America.
- Furthermore, it sounds like there are plans to emphasize AAA more on WWE programming going forward. Several members of the WWE roster are interested in working in AAA.
- Per Fightful Select, a new season of MLW Fusion is coming, and the details of its premiere will be revealed imminently.
