The Chicago Bears battled back and forth with the San Francisco 49ers on December 28th, 2025, in a primetime Sunday Night Football matchup that was a thing of offensive beauty. It featured five ties, 80 points, and 936 yards of offense.
The visiting Bears tied the game up at 35 a few seconds into the fourth quarter on a D’Andre Swift 22-yard touchdown run, and then took the lead on a Caro Santos field goal with 5:22 left in the game. But the ‘Niners would not be denied as they came back with a s 38-yard
TD pass from Brock Purdy to Jauan Jennings to take the lead, 42 to 38, with 2:15 left on the clock.
The Bears ran 16 plays trying for the go-ahead score, but this comeback fell short.
Regardless, it was an exciting game, and while it didn’t make many year-end highlight packages for the Bears (because of the L), it did feature one of the best play calls of the 2025 season from Chicago head coach Ben Johnson.
The social media account Film Watchers does a good job of breaking down plays in a quick and concise manner, and they recently picked a Caleb Williams to Luther Burden II touchdown in the first quarter of that game as the best playcall of the year.
