Indiana’s Lamar Wilkerson set program-records for made 3-pointers and points scored in a game at Assembly Hall with 44 points on 10-15 from deep. It was also his career-high in scoring and the first time in his four seasons in college basketball with 10 made threes.
Wilkerson started the night hot, making his first three 3-pointers in the opening three minutes of play, giving Indiana an early 9-5 lead. He finished the half with 20 points, a mark that Penn State didn’t pass as a team until there were
just over three minutes left in the first half.
He was active on the defensive end in the first half too, nabbing two steals in the opening 20 that he was able to convert for contested buckets in transition. He finished the night with three steals, four rebounds, and four assists in just over 24 minutes of playing time, on top of his historic scoring effort.
Had it been a closer game, it’s easy to see how Wilkerson could have finished with an even more impressive stat line. With a 42-point lead and under five minutes to play, though, head coach Darian DeVries was able to pull him for a well-earned breather.
Behind Wilkerson’s performance, Indiana was able to snap a two-game losing streak and gain some momentum ahead of a big matchup with Kentucky this Saturday.
