With the Minnesota Vikings bringing in a bunch of wide receivers recently, some folks. . .yours truly included. . .have been wondering exactly why. The Vikings already, seemingly, have a lot of talent at wide receiver, but it appears that one of those players could be on the way out after being quite underwhelming in the early portions of this season.
Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network is reporting that the trade market for Vikings’ wide receiver Jauan Jennings is expected to “heat up” ahead of the league’s trade deadline, which is 10 November.
The Vikings signed Jennings to a one-year contract worth up to $13 million back in May, and it’s hard to imagine how the deal could be more of a disappointment thus far. In his first four games (he missed the game against Chicago to deal with a family issue), he’s been targeted just nine times and has only two receptions for nine yards. That gives him less productivity than players like Tai Felton, Myles Price, DeeJay Dallas, and Gavin Bartholomew. I don’t have the math in front of me, but I’d be surprised of those four players combined were slated to make as much this season as Jennings is.
According to a tweet made by the folks from Spotrac, trading Jennings away would incur a $5.4 million cap hit for the Vikings this season and a $4.4 million cap hit for whichever team would acquire him. Not crippling, by any stretch, but it’s not a pittance or anything like that, either. I’m not sure how much Jennings would fetch in a trade at this point, either, but the signs certainly seem to be pointing towards him not being a member of the Vikings for too much longer.
What do you think, folks? Is Jauan Jennings still going to be a member of this team by the trade deadline? Is he even going to be a member of the Vikings when they come back from the bye week? Let us know what you think in the comments section.
