Former Bayern Munich winger Leroy Sané is enjoying his inaugural season in Türkiye. The 30-year-old went in depth on his slow start, rounding into form, and the spirited environment he has found now at Galatasaray as he looks ahead to the rest of his Süper Lig and Champions League campaigns.
“Of course, I had to settle in first. I had an adjustment period, so things didn’t quite go as planned on the pitch at the beginning,” Sané shared in an exclusive interview with Sky Germany. “I had to get to know
my teammates, and they had to get to know me – how to interact on the pitch, how to play together. That took a little while. But now, in the last few games, I’m very happy with my performances and how I’ve played. I want to carry this momentum forward and keep going.”
Bayern actually played Galatasaray in the final edition of the Champions League group stage in 2023 — a two-game series with the Bavarians the victors both times. Sané himself supplied the opening assist in Istanbul in Bayern’s 3-1 win that October. That atmosphere left an impression on Sané.
“I’ve already had the chance to play here with Bayern — the atmosphere was incredible back then,” Sané continued. “But now in the league, it’s special every time. This atmosphere gives you a huge boost.
“The Liverpool game was even more extreme, of course. You don’t experience games like that very often, and I’m simply grateful to be able to enjoy it at almost every home game. I want to give my best on the pitch and give something back to the fans, because they really create an incredible atmosphere.“
Sané’s Galatasaray notched a surprise 1-0 win over Liverpool this September. And — thanks to a 5-2 steamrolling of Juventus in the first leg of the knockouts play-in round this month — his UCL adventure is set to continue.
