Bayern Munich notched a 2-1 season-opening win over VfB Stuttgart in the Franz Beckenbauer Supercup last weekend and is now preparing to open the 2025/26 Bundesliga campaign.
But squad planning has been in focus in the final days of the transfer window. In recent weeks the Bavarians have sold winger Kingsley Coman and failed (for good?) to secure Stuttgart forward Nick Woltemade. Meanwhile Jamal Musiala is out for a while with his devastating Club World Cup injury — and as a result, winger Michael
Olise took up the mantle in central attacking midfield.
Is that the plan for the near future? Head coach Vincent Kompany held his cards close to the vest.
“It’s not about a position for the entire season. Michael played there at times last season too,” Kompany said in comments captured by Sport1 (via @iMiaSanMia). “When Jamal’s out, we have to find solutions. Michael played there very often in England and for the national team. It’s a possibility. Some players can play in multiple positions, but the focus is always on the team. Speaking to Michael, we know that he feels comfortable in both positions.”
In any case, the Bavarians do not have a lot of options in attack at the moment. Can something change before the transfer window slams shut?
