Speaking to reporters after the Golden State Warriors’ 101-89 preseason victory over the Los Angeles Lakers in Las Vegas, Steve Kerr was asked about the state of his squad and whether they were fully fit and ready to head into the regular season as a cohesive unit.
Asked the question by ESPN’s Anthony Slater, Kerr stated, “We’re not anywhere close to where we want to be. But we’re working on the right things. We have a clear vision. Players are great guys, they’re committed, they want to do well.
But our execution is scattered at this point. We just gotta keep working, it’s not going to happen overnight. So we’ll keep going.”
Kerr added specifics as to why the team was struggling to become cohesive.
“Tonight it was lack of flow, lack of recognition of what we’re trying to do after made baskets. Offensively, we didn’t get to our spots. That’s the whole thing we’re trying to teach this year, getting to consistent spots, making consistent cuts, getting away from the random stuff that we’ve run in the past. We have to be more organized.”
