The Los Angeles Rams finally found a way to win in Philadelphia. After falling behind 20-10 at halftime, the Rams rallied for 14 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to defeat the Eagles 24-20 and improve to 2-2 on the season.
The comeback was fueled by several pivotal moments on both sides of the football. Matthew Stafford orchestrated two fourth-quarter scoring drives, Kyren Williams delivered two critical touchdown runs, and the Rams defense repeatedly kept the Eagles from putting the game away.
Puka Nacua also made an immediate impact in his return from injury, finishing with 125 receiving yards.
Philadelphia had multiple opportunities to close out the game, but the Rams continually found a way to stay within striking distance. From costly turnovers and a missed field goal to a critical fourth-down stop and Byron Young’s game-sealing sacks, the contest ultimately came down to a handful of defining plays.
1. Rams D stops Eagles on 4th & Goal (7:31 left in 4th quarter)
With the Rams down 20-10, the Eagles had driven down to the Rams 9 yard line. But Chris Shula’s defense stuffed Jalen Hurts on 3rd & Goal and forced an incomplete pass on 4th & Goal. It was a questionable call by Nick Sirianni (surprise) considering the Eagles offense was anemic all afternoon. The 4th down stop gave the Rams offense momentum and they did not look back.
2. Stafford checks down to Kyren Williams on 3rd Down & 10
It wasn’t a miraculous play by any measure. It was a simple 9 yard completion but Jonathan Jones was flagged 15 yards for hitting Kyren Williams while he was airborne and well out of bounds. The unnecessary roughness penalty on Philadelphia gave the Rams the ball inside the redzone and a fresh set of downs.
3. Kam Curl breaks up 3rd Down & 4 pass to Zach Ertz
Had the Eagles managed to pick up a first down the Rams might not have had enough time to mount a comeback. On 3rd & 4 at the PHI 46, Kam Curl managed to get his hands in to breakup a pass intended for Zach Ertz. It was the Eagles 11th failed down conversion of the game and forced them to punt the ball back to Los Angeles; giving Matthew Stafford a chance to win the game… and did he.
4. Kyren Williams punches in 2nd Touchdown
Kyren Williams was the hero of the game and his 2nd touchdown was impressive. Kyren fought through three defenders on his way to paydirt. After attacking the Eagles run defense inside the tackles all game, Kyren bounced a run outside the left tackle and lunged for the goal line to give the Rams a 24-20 lead with 1:10 left in the game.
5a. Byron Young sacks Jalen Hurts on 1st Down
5b. Byron Young sacks Jalen Hurts on 3rd Down
It’s hard not to include both of these. Byron Young closed out the game for the Rams with two sacks, including a forced fumble. Even though the Eagles had no timeouts, there was still opportunity but Young ensured that the Eagles would not come anywhere close to responding. The first was a 7 yard loss and the second was an 8 yard loss. Both plays bleed the clock and the Eagles were forced to throw up a hail mary on 4th Down & 25 from their own PHI 12.
