Alexander Isak’s performance was one of the highlights of the ultimately disappointing Anfield friendly at the weekend, and the Swedish striker spoke to Liverpoolfc.com about his anticipation for the season.
It’s unavoidable to note that though the World Cup was a minor interruption for Isak’s pre-season this summer, Sweden’s underperformance likely assured a much more complete pre-season than the massively disrupted version last season — a disruption that led to fitness struggles that dogged Isak right
until injury pipped his emerging form.
Asked about his fitness levels, Isak is optimistic about his pre-season fitness path this season:
“I feel good, I feel good. Every game hopefully should take me to a better fitness level, so that’s what I’m working towards. I think today felt better than [the] last game and hopefully the next game feels better than today. That’s what pre-season is for — building — and that’s what we have to keep doing.”
Furthermore, he feels the energy amongst the squad and with new head coach Andoni Iraola is promising:
“[Working with Iraola is] Really good. I feel like the spirit is good in the group and we’re all working hard to make things work. We’re going to make sure that we’re ready for the start.”
